Here is a very simple recipe for how to make maple snow a true Canadian tradition of drizzling hot maple candy on snow to harden it. It’s really fun for the kidlets.
- Pat a layer of snow onto a baking sheet and leave it in the fridge or outside to keep it from melting.
- Place 1 cup maple syrup in a pot on the stove, and bring to a boil.
- Using a candy thermometer, continue to boil until syrup reaches the soft ball stage (235º -240ºF), or if you don’t have a candy thermometer you can drop a little of the candy into a bowl of ice water, remove it and see if it makes a ‘soft ball’.
- Remove from heat when it’s in soft ball stage and pour syrup over snowy baking sheet. You can write your name or draw a picture to make it even more crazy fun. Or press a popsicle stick into syrup and roll it up into a candy pop.
- Once it’s cool it’s ready to eat!
